Galleries and Theatres in Hull

Be Part of the Story

Dave Windass

My earliest memories of being in a cultural venue in Hull are getting told off by staff at the Ferens Art Gallery for sliding around thier lovely slippery floor surfaces. A glance down at those marble and wooden floors are the first thing that make me smile as I enter the citys municipal gallery to take in permanent European Old Mastersm, marine painting, modern and contemporary British Art.

So, I'd reccommend a visit if you a) you too would like to goad the extremely pleasant and patient staff with your Bolero and b) you want to get an instant hit of what Hull offers. Despote the kudos of hosting the Turner Prize 2017 and a recent facelift, the Ferens retains its charm.

More recently, Humber Street Gallery has provided the city with a multi-level comtemporary exhibition space with an aura of cool. Hull's outstanding performing arts world continues to pivot around producing theatre Hull Truck Theatre and its mixed programme of original work, while the Hull New Theatre, another venue to have benefited recently from serious investment, hosts the biggest and best touring productions.
