Shopping in Hull & East Yorkshire

Got time for a spot of retail therapy? Whether you’re in the heart of the UK’s City of Culture 2017 or the market towns and villages of East Yorkshire, this region has a unique range of big brands, hidden gems and trail-blazing independents that is a real joy to discover.

Hull Town

In a city that’s famous for its independence of spirit, you’d expect to find a pretty impressive array of independent retailers alongside the High Street names. And Hull does not disappoint. From high street favourites to small independent shops, you can experience a fabulous shopping experience in Hull.

Princes Quay is one of the most unique shopping centres in the country, built on stilts over Prince's Dock and constructed with large windows; visitors can experience panoramic views of the Hull Marina and the dock. Here you can take advantage of its new outlet floor receiving up to 70% off all your favourite brands every day, shopping never felt so good!

When you’re ready for a Deli snack and a coffee head to the recently refurbished Trinity Market, home to some of the city’s best loved independent traders; take your pick from artisan coffee, specially blended teas, locally renowned street-food and even a falafal store!
From here, walk through the covered passageway into one of Hull’s real hidden gems, the rather beautiful, Hepworth Arcade. The Grade II Listed Arcade features an ornate glass-domed roof and few will realise that this is where Mr Marks and Mr Spencer opened one of their first penny bazaars!

St Stephen's is one of Hull's most popular shopping destinations. The centre offers your favourite brands and guarantees a stylish shopping experience. If it's rest and relaxation you're looking for then take time out in one of their many restaurants or cafes.

Shopping in Beverley

East Yorkshire

All of the towns and villages surrounding Hull have something to offer shopaholics.

Beverley provides an upmarket shopping experience in a beautiful and historic setting. Situated in the shadows of the beautiful Beverley Minster you can find Beverley’s newest retail and leisure destination Flemingate which brings together the very best in entertainment, shopping and dining.

With the iconic Humber Bridge and variety of shops and cafes, Hessle is a busy town just outside of Hull. Hessle is worth visiting if you’re looking for something special to wear for a night out - With a number of boutiques, alongside beauty and hair salons, these independent designers won’t disappoint.

Cottingham, which claims to be the largest village in England, is close to both Hull and Beverley, and draws visitors year-round with a lively programme of events including Springboard live music festival, food and drink festival and its annual Cottingham Day. Cottingham has a great range of browsable shops along with Blondes café and gift shop - a great place to take a break and grab a bite to eat.

Coastal Towns

If you’re visiting the coast, no visit to the small seaside town of Hornsea is complete without a bargain-hunting trip to Hornsea Freeport. Offering up to 50 per cent off RRPs, Hornsea Freeport was the UK’s first factory outlet shopping village.

A little further up the East Yorkshire coast is holiday hotspot Bridlington. The Promenades shopping centre is good for those rainy days. And away from the attractions and tourist shops of the seafront, an afternoon of dallying around the quaint antiques and gift shops of the Old Town is an afternoon well spent. The antiques centre at the welcoming Georgian Tea Rooms is a particular highlight along with Memory Lane sweet shop being another firm favourite of visitors. At Victoria Mill you’ll experience an unexpected alternative to the high street; with visitors describing the stylish converted mill as “hidden Bridlington” here you can find luxury bath products, clothes, a barbers and a coffee shop.
