Details
Toll Cottage was built on the grounds of Baynard Castle, a moated castle built in the 12th and 13th centuries, and derives its name from its position to the toll gate of the castle.
In 1792 George Knowsley changed the contour of the street and created a bend in the road which brought the castle's outer moat inside the grounds of his house. Later, the '18th Century Cottage on the bend' became known as the Click'em in(n) and was reported to be an inn with a back room, where drunks where locked in over night to keep them out of harm's way.
Today, Toll Cottage has been renovated and refurbished to a luxurious standard and now offers Bed and a fabulous Yorkshire Breakfast!
