Details

Organised by the Bridlington Sailing Coble Preservation Society (BSCPS), and with the full co-operation of the Bridlington Harbour Commissioners (BHC), the 2020 Bridlington 'Sailing Coble Festival' will take place over the weekend of 11th-12th July.

This will be the fifth consecutive year it has been held and will be based in and around Bridlington harbour with all the vessels taking part moored alongside Harbour Road and the Crane Wharf area.

From quite humble beginnings in 2016, it has developed into a major maritime attraction on the Yorkshire Coast bringing together the largest gathering of sailing cobles in living memory. Bridlington carries the mantle of 'the sailing coble capital of Great Britain' and during the summer months can boast seven of these traditional craft moored in the harbour. The Festival has attracted cobles from Mevagissey, Whitby, South Shields and Staithes in the past and this year it is hoped further cobles will be taking part. Interest has already been expressed by owners from Brixham, Blyth and Amble to attend the Festival.

The cobles will be sailing in the beautiful Bridlington Bay during the two days of the Festival and shore based will be traditional folk and sea songs performed by Jim Eldon (The Brid Fiddler). There will also be stands and stalls providing items of maritime interest inside the BHC Vessel Maintenance Facility at Clough Hole adjacent to the harbour. The Festival will commence 0900 and will close around 1600 with an unofficial sailing day on Friday 10th July when a number of visiting cobles will be arriving.
