A series of permanent Mile Markers have been installed on the Bridlington coastline which is part of East Riding of Yorkshire Councils 'Active Coast' initiative which aims to provide residents and visitors with the opportunity to take part in year round active recreation and cultural activity on the East Riding coastline. The two measured routes are as follows:

• Route 1 – Park & Ride (Promenade) to The Spa, Bridlington (1 mile)
• Route 2 – East Riding Leisure Bridlington to Sewerby Hall & Gardens (1.75 miles)

The markers are located every 0.25 miles along the routes and are themed to reflect a number of recreational activities and features on the iconic coastline.

To celebrate the installation of the markers, an official launch will be held on Tuesday 19 July at 10.30am in conjunction with the Sewerby Walking for Health initiative, where participants will be able to take part in a 1 hour guided walk along the cliff top. Anyone wishing to join in should meet 15 minutes before the start time outside Sewerby Hall & Gardens cliff top pay box (no booking is necessary).

All ages and abilities are welcome, so whether you are a family, couple, community group, dog walker or individual who would like increase your physical activity levels, then this launch will be ideal to get a feel for the new route and support a local community project.

For more information regarding the Mile Markers, a leaflet which includes maps of the routes and a description of the markers can be collected from a number of locations including The Foreshores Office, The Spa Bridlington, East Riding Leisure Bridlington or Sewerby Hall & Gardens (download also available - see attached).

So whether you feel you can complete the routes over one day or want to enjoy the walks at a separate time, it is hoped residents and tourists will enjoy spotting the markers whilst enjoying the sites of the coastline.

For any queries regarding the launch or for more information on the Mile Markers, please contact Jenna Leach, Coastal Community Sports Coach on 01482 392529 or email
