Sewerby Access Project
Phase One began with work to the stable block, the provision of new zoo offices, animal sick bays and a vet’s room, new toilets and The Stables Gift Shop; a new retail and catering outlet.
Work then continued to convert the existing toilets into a new Welcome Centre and Estate Office on the ground floor and new Education Rooms on the first floor. Work to these two locations continued throughout the winter and was completed in summer 2013, when the Education Rooms became available to hire by the public.
Following the successful completion of the first phase of the restoration of Sewerby Hall, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and East Riding of Yorkshire Council, the lead contractor, William Birch and Sons, started work on the second phase of the project in October 2013.
The work will see the interior of the stately home restored to how it would have looked in the year 1900. Projects include the reinstatement of a fully-functioning service wing and working kitchen. The historic family interiors will be refurbished with specially selected pieces of furniture from the national collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
While the hall is currently closed to visitors (work is expected to be complete in July 2014) the remainder of the estate is completely accessible to visitors.
