Built from brick in 1409 and the only surviving gate to the town, the Bar speaks volums for the importance of this place in times gone by. If theres one starting point on any visit to the town, it has to be the Minster. Dating back to 1220 and dominating the skyline, the inster is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture and a fabulous sight from every angle. Another church worth visiting is the beautiful and fasinating St mary's which actually pre-dates the minster. Take in the brightly painted pillars and - if your a Lewis Carroll fan look out for the carving of the rabbit or pilgrim hare which is said to be the inspiration for the arch hare in Alice in Wonderland.

Nearby, theres the famous national collection of hordy water liliesin the lake of Stewarts Burnby Hall Gardens and Museum, Whilst ancient Millington Woods with its natural springs, ancient ash trees and woodland trail is a must.
Perhaps the largest Wolds market town is Driffield. Known as the capital of the Wolds, you'll love rubbing shoulders with the locals at the livley farmers market where you can pick up mouth watering local produce fresh from the fields.
