Philippa Carr

Philippa Carr

Ever wondered why some wines just don’t ‘go’ with certain foods and others make the perfect match? In this fun and interactive tasting of six wines and taster nibbles, Master of Wine Philippa Carr will guide you through a selection of key food flavours to learn which wine styles make their perfect partners.

Philippa Carr is a York-based Master of Wine, one of only 369 in the world. The reason there are so few is because it’s a fiendishly difficult set of exams and the letters MW after your name mean you have passed the highest qualification in wine. Philippa Carr

There have been plenty of other career highlights that Philippa is proud of, from managing wine shops in Manchester, Cheshire and Yorkshire to running the wine courses at London’s Leith’s School of Food & Wine; from buying for a major supermarket to Wine Editorship of a glossy magazine. But how many other wine tasters have also starred in a TV advert with James Nesbitt (of Cold Feet fame), shared a stage with Alex James of Blur and presented a series of wine talks currently running on YouTube….

Join Philippa to taste some great wine, learn how to match food types to wine styles and maybe discover what a Dwarf from Middle Earth was doing in a Bordeaux vineyard…

She will offer you the chance to try tasting like a professional and give you a simple guide on how to navigate the wall of wine in your local wine shop or supermarket.

You will be welcomed with a glass of fizz and the evening will conclude with supper with wine – plus a competition for the brave!

Join Philippa for a relaxed evening of hints , tips and fine wine.
