Looking for a laugh to shake off those winter blues?

Bridlington's first Silent Film Festival will be held at Spotlight Theatre on West Street, Bridlington.

The event is sponsored by The Lords Feoffees and runs from Thursday 1st February until Saturday 3rd February 2018.

There will be three films shown each night, starting at 7.30pm.

Thursday - Buster Keaton 'Neighbours' 1920 A young couple who live next to each other in tenement apartments do everything they can to be together -a Romeo and Juliet story with Buster and Virginia's families hating each other over the fence separating their buildings.
Laurel & Hardy 'Leave 'Em Laughing' 1928 Leaving the dentist's office, where Hardy's teeth have been extracted by mistake, the boys, still under the influence of laughing gas, meet up with a traffic cop and cause a huge traffic jam.
Charlie Chaplin 'The Circus' 1928 Wrongfully accused of criminal acts, a tramp unwittingly ducks into a big top, where his bumbling attempts to avoid pursuing police officers earn the laughter and applause of the circus-goers. Impressed, the ringmaster decides to employ the tramp as an entertainer. In between getting trapped in a lion's cage and partaking in clumsy high wire escapades, he falls for a beautiful show rider, who unfortunately has eyes for a daring tightrope acrobat.

Friday - Laurel &Hardy 'Liberty' 1929 Two escaped convicts change clothes in the getaway car, but wind up wearing each other's pants. The rest of the film involves their trying to exchange pants, in alleys, in cabs and finally high above the street on the girders of a construction site.
Charlie Chaplin 'The Pawn Shop'1916 Charlie competes with his fellow shop assistant. He is fired by the pawnbroker and rehired. He nearly destroys everything in the shop and and himself. He helps capture a burglar and destroys a client's clock while examining it in detail.
Buster Keaton 'The Navigator' 1924 Rollo decides to marry his sweetheart Betsy and sail to Honolulu. When she rejects him he decides to go alone but boards the wrong ship, the "Navigator" owned by Betsy's father. Unaware of this, Betsy boards the ship to look for her father. whom spies capture before cutting the ship loose. It drifts out to sea with the two socialites each unaware of there being anyone else on board.

Saturday - Buster Keaton 'Cops' 1922 A series of mishaps manages to make a young man get chased by a big city's entire police force.
Laurel &Hardy 'Habeas Corpus' 1928 A loony scientist hires Laurel and Hardy to raid the cemetery to keep him supplied with dead bodies for his experiments.
Harold Lloyd 'Safety Last' 1923 A boy (Harold Lloyd) moves to New York City to make enough money to support his loving girlfriend, but soon discovers that making it in the big city is harder than it looks. On hearing that a store manager will pay $1,000 to anyone who can draw people to his store, he convinces his friend to climb the building and split the profit with him. But when his pal gets in trouble with the law, he must complete the crazy stunt on his own. It includes one of the most famous images from the silent film era: Lloyd clutching the hands of a large clock as he dangles from the outside of a skyscraper above moving traffic. The film was highly successful and critically hailed, and it cemented Lloyd's status as a major figure in early motion pictures.

Silent film pianist at selected performances Mr Geoff Allanach.
