If you’re looking for those traditional, magical qualities that make Christmas so special, make some diary dates to visit Bridlington Old Town throughout December…

The new Destination Old Town group (D.O.T), recently formed to promote the area’s rich heritage and culture, is planning lots of festive ‘happenings’ throughout Advent, to make your shopping and family time extra special. Fridays in December mean late night shopping and seasonal entertainments from 5-8pm on the four Fridays up to Christmas. Look out for details of complementary events at many locations throughout Old Town too - including The Priory; St. John’s Burlington Methodist Church and in several businesses.

Friday 1st December launches the month of festivities with events beginning at 5pm at the end of High Street with Makara Morris dancing outside The Morten Gallery. Then see all the delightful Christmas-themed windows throughout Old Town, with businesses and some historic houses opening their doors and offering tasty traditional Christmas hospitality, to tempt you in! Period costume is encouraged for all – just dress up and turn up in the costume of your favourite era! Shopkeepers will be taking part too. There’ll be music and Morris dancing in various locations. Don’t miss the Victorian costume photo booth at The Georgian Rooms – they have a special festive menu too! There will also be festive poetry readings at The Toft, 43 High Street, at 5.30pm, 6.30pm and 7pm. The Priory church also has several seasonal events over the weekend.

Friday 8th December features festive fayre and fabulous food – check out the many hostelries and restaurants in Old Town alongside a hint of Steampunk on parade in the Georgian splendour of Old Bridlington’s Cultural Quarter between 5pm and 8pm. Join us and browse the shops in your favourite period costume (any period). This Friday features a 20 minute ‘potted panto’ in three different locations, at 5.30pm, 6.30pm and 7.30pm. Interspersed at 5pm, 6pm and 7pm with beautiful Christmas 3-part harmony singing at Bestworth House on High street – a unique historic setting in the hallway, by the crackling open fire – just drop in! The Victorian photo booth is back at The Georgian Rooms too.

Friday 15th December is all about the kids - as Christmas is their special time. Join in the big Treasure Hunt in many of the shops as there’s some tasty candy treats for all entrants, so make it a date on your advent calendar! Winners announced on the 22nd, which is a great excuse for another trip to Old Town – when the children will also love Nine Degrees East Theatre Group’s pop-up 20 minute spoof panto, back for more fun! Why not get the kids to dress in period costume too and bring along their favourite lanterns to help light up the streets in true Dickensian style. The kids will love taking part, because Santa will also be wandering the streets to wish you all a Merry Christmas! Bestworth House opens it’s doors again for that beautiful 3-part seasonal singing in the most historic setting – it’s free! There should be plenty of Christmas cheer from school choirs around the tree and carollers on the street too.

Friday 22nd December is our culmination of the month’s festivities. D.O.T. invites you all to join in our visual and vocal celebration of culture in Old Town. Dress up, light up your lanterns and sing up with us! Drive-by Santa will lead is down to the community singing by the magnificent Priory Church at 7.30pm. Preceded by Christmas shopping with mince pies, mulled wine, music and seasonal singing in the narrow, winding Dickensian-style High Street and cobbled Market Place. Capture that special Christmas magic with all the family - turn up in costume and simply join in. Watch social media for more details or changes to schedules.
