The world’s largest three-day beach angling festival will kick off with the much-loved ‘Flattie Bash’, on Hornsea beach, on Friday, 24 February 2017. The event runs from 9.30am-1pm, with cash and tackles prizes to be won at just £10 per person (all classes).
This will be followed by the main competition held along the East Yorkshire Coastline on Saturday, 25 and Sunday, 26 February 2017, with tickets now available to buy online through the EY Events website, priced at £20 per day or a full weekend ticket for £30.
The event will see 1,000 anglers flocking to the East Yorkshire Coast hoping to win a share of the £35,000 prize fund. Increased promotion has resulted in attracting both new and old entrants from Ireland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg and Poland, as well hundreds of anglers from all corners of the UK.
As this remarkable event continues to grow, tickets are in high demand. Competitors are keen to take part in the battle for the crown of European Open Beach Champion and to win the large haul of cash.
The beach fishing championship is based at Sand Le Mere Holiday Village and is organised by EY Events and East Riding of Yorkshire Council. The competition is an enormous economic boost for the whole coastal area with local businesses benefitting from over half-a-million pounds, which is spent within the East Yorkshire region at what is normally a very quiet time of the year.
Councillor Jane Evison, cabinet portfolio holder for economic investment and tourism at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “The Paul Roggeman European Open Beach Championships is one of the East Riding’s most popular and successful events, with competitors from across the continent competing.
“As well as providing a boost for our coastal economy at what is often a quiet time of the year, the interest from across the UK and overseas ensures that the championships are a main stay on the calendar and puts this area firmly on the map as a must-visit destination for anglers.”
William Hall, from East Yorkshire Events, said: “We are really excited for this year’s 24th championships and the celebrations will be fantastic. We are venturing into a fifth year at Sand-Le-Mere Holiday Village, whose top-quality facilities have given the competition a real boost.
“Once again we have been inundated with enquiries for tickets and accommodation. The big increase in interest from across Europe is a fantastic reward for all the time, hard work and effort spent promoting the event.
“The championship is a massive boost for the area’s economy, in a traditionally quiet period, and continues our commitment of delivering world-class events in the East Riding of Yorkshire.”
Although this festival of beach fishing now attracts the cream of the crop of European shore anglers, it remains true to its original values of offering a fun and enjoyable event for all the family that is open and accessible to all.
With separate sections dedicated to juniors and women, the fully-inclusive nature of the event really makes it stand out.
